SSC CHSL 2026 — Complete Guide for 12th Pass Candidates

1. Posts and Salary in SSC CHSL

Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA): Pay Level 2, basic ₹19,900, in-hand ₹28,000–32,000 in metro. Postal Assistant (PA) / Sorting Assistant (SA): Pay Level 4, basic ₹25,500, in-hand ₹35,000–40,000 in metro. Data Entry Operator (DEO): Pay Level 4 or 5, basic ₹25,500 or ₹29,200. All posts include DA, HRA, TA, CGHS medical, and NPS pension. For a Class 12 pass, these are excellent entry-level central government positions.

2. Eligibility Criteria

Educational qualification: Class 12 pass or equivalent from a recognised board. For DEO posts in some departments: 12th pass in Science stream with Mathematics may be required. Age limit: 18–27 years for most posts (some posts 18–30 years). OBC: 3 years relaxation. SC/ST: 5 years. PwBD: 10 years. Entry-level CHSL posts are not dead-end positions. LDC can be promoted to UDC (Upper Division Clerk) through the Staff Selection process, then to Assistant Section Officer (ASO) through the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE). Many government officers today started as LDCs and reached Gazetted Officer level over 15–20 years.
