UPSC CSE

The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) is India's most prestigious competitive exam, conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission to recruit officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and over 20 other Group A and Group B central services. With a selection rate of under 0.2% from over 10 lakh registered candidates, it is also one of the most competitive examinations in the world.

The exam spans three stages spread over nearly a year: Prelims (June), Mains (September), and Personality Test/Interview (April-May of the following year). Only Mains and Interview marks count toward the final merit list — Prelims is a pure qualifying round. The Mains examination consists of nine papers, with General Studies Papers 1–4 and an Essay being the most critical for ranking.
