Reserve Bank of India โ Grade B Officer (DR)
Mode
online
Total Marks
350
Duration
Phase 1: 2 hrs; Phase 2: 3 papers ร 90 min; Phase 3: Interview
RBI Grade B is one of the most prestigious and competitive banking exams in India, selecting officers directly at the Grade B (Officer) level in the Reserve Bank of India โ the country's central bank and apex monetary authority. Unlike IBPS PO which places officers in commercial banks, RBI Grade B officers work on monetary policy, financial regulation, currency management, foreign exchange, and research functions at the RBI โ a completely different and highly specialised career.
The selection process has three phases: Phase 1 (CBT โ General Awareness, English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning: 200 marks, 120 minutes), Phase 2 (CBT โ Economic and Social Issues, English Writing Skills, Finance and Management: 300 marks, 180 minutes), and Phase 3 (Interview: 75 marks). Phase 2 is the critical differentiator โ it requires deep understanding of economics, Indian financial system, monetary policy, and current economic events that goes well beyond standard bank exam preparation.
The starting salary for RBI Grade B is approximately โน1 lakh per month (basic + allowances), rising to โน1.5 lakh+ with experience. Additionally, RBI provides accommodation (or HRA), LTC, medical facilities, and one of the best pension schemes in government service. Due to the combination of intellectual work, compensation, and working conditions, RBI Grade B has a very low attrition rate. Our editorial team reviews RBI Grade B notifications and phase-wise pattern from the official RBI careers portal at rbi.org.in/careers, last updated July 2026.
RBI Grade B is the most prestigious central bank officer exam in India. Grade B officers join as Class I officers at RBI headquarters and regional offices. The role involves monetary policy, regulation, supervision, and research functions of India's central bank.
