India has over 40 crore farmers and agricultural workers. The central government runs more than 50 dedicated schemes to support them โ covering income support, crop insurance, irrigation, organic farming, soil health, and credit access. Yet many farmers never claim these benefits simply because they do not know these schemes exist. This article lists the 10 most impactful schemes every farmer in India should know about in 2026.
PM Kisan Samman Nidhi provides โน6,000 per year to small and marginal farmer families in three equal instalments of โน2,000 each, transferred directly to their Aadhaar-linked bank account. As of 2026, over 11 crore farmers are enrolled. To check your status or register, visit pmkisan.gov.in or your nearest CSC. The most common reason for non-receipt is Aadhaar not being seeded to your bank account โ get this done at your bank branch.
Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) provides insurance coverage for crop loss due to natural calamities, pests, and diseases. The premium for farmers is very low โ just 2% for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi, and 5% for commercial/horticultural crops. The rest is paid by the government. You must enrol through your bank before the deadline for each season. Loanee farmers are enrolled automatically by banks.

The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme provides short-term credit for purchasing seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and meeting other farming expenses at a subsidised interest rate of 4% per annum (after government interest subvention). The credit limit is based on land holding and crop pattern. Apply at any cooperative bank, regional rural bank, or commercial bank. You can also apply online through PM-KISAN portal if you already receive PM-KISAN benefits.
The National Agriculture Market (eNAM) is an online trading platform for agricultural commodities that connects farmers directly with buyers across India, eliminating middlemen. Farmers can list their produce on the eNAM portal, get bids from traders in multiple markets, and choose the best price. Over 1,000 mandis across 22 states are connected to eNAM. Register through your local APMC mandi or at enam.gov.in.
PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) aims to expand irrigated area and improve water use efficiency. The scheme funds micro-irrigation (drip and sprinkler systems) under the Per Drop More Crop component, with up to 55% subsidy for small and marginal farmers and 45% for others. This is one of the most financially significant subsidies available โ a drip irrigation system that costs โน1 lakh may cost you only โน45,000 after the subsidy. Apply through your state's horticulture or agriculture department.
The Soil Health Card scheme provides every farmer with a card that shows the nutrient status of their soil and recommendations on fertiliser dosage. Using soil health recommendations, farmers can reduce fertiliser costs by 8โ10% and improve yields by 5โ6%. Soil testing is done free of charge by government labs. Apply at your Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) or local agriculture department office.
Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) promotes cluster-based organic farming and provides financial support of โน50,000 per hectare over 3 years. This covers the cost of organic inputs, certification, and value addition. Organic certified produce fetches 20โ30% premium over conventional produce in the market. The scheme operates through farmer groups of at least 20 farmers covering 50 acres. Contact your Krishi Vigyan Kendra for how to form a group.
PM Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) is a โน20,050 crore scheme to develop the fisheries sector. It provides financial assistance for fish farming infrastructure, boats, nets, cold storage, and fish feed. Subsidies range from 40% to 60% depending on category (SC/ST/women get higher subsidy). Both inland and marine fishermen are covered. Apply through the state fisheries department.
Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) is a central scheme that funds agricultural infrastructure and technology projects proposed by state governments. Through RKVY-RAFTAAR, individual entrepreneurs and farmer producer organisations (FPOs) can apply for funding to set up agri-business projects. Grants of up to โน25 lakh are available for eligible projects. Apply through your state agriculture department.
PM Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) ensures farmers receive at least the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce. It includes a Price Support Scheme (PSS) for direct procurement by government agencies and a Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS) where the government pays the difference if market price falls below MSP. Registration is done through state agencies like NAFED during the procurement season.
