Ministry of Women and Child Development
Launched in 2007-08 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ujjawala aimed to prevent trafficking of women and children for commercial sexual exploitation, facilitate rescue and rehabilitation of victims, and enable their social reintegration. It established Protective Homes and Rehabilitation Centres and funded awareness campaigns through NGOs in source and destination districts. Ujjawala was restructured under the Sambal scheme and later Mission Vatsalya in 2021.
