Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya)

Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana — Saubhagya — was launched in 2017 to achieve universal household electrification across India. Under the scheme, electricity connections were provided free of cost to all BPL households and at ₹500 (payable in 10 instalments) to APL households in rural areas. The scheme helped electrify the last 2.5 crore un-electrified households in India, completing the process by April 2018 for villages and extending to remaining households by March 2019.

While the main electrification phase of Saubhagya is complete, the scheme's framework continues to be used for providing new connections to households that were missed or formed after the initial survey. If your household in a rural or semi-urban area does not have an electricity connection, you can apply through the state DISCOM (Distribution Company) or through the Saubhagya portal.

The important distinction is between village electrification (completed) and household electrification (ongoing). A village is declared electrified when 10% of households have power — but individual household connections are provided separately and some rural households may still be waiting.
