Launched in April 2005, the Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana provided unemployment allowance to workers insured under ESIC (Employees' State Insurance Corporation) who lost jobs due to closure of factory, retrenchment, or permanent invalidity. Eligible workers received 50% of average daily wages for up to 12 months. The scheme was renamed and continued under ESIC's unemployment insurance framework, later enhanced under Atal Bimit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana in 2018.
