Ministry of Industry (later MSME)
Launched on 2 October 1993 by Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, PMRY provided bank loans of up to ₹1 lakh to educated unemployed youth for setting up micro-enterprises in manufacturing, service, and business sectors. It targeted young persons between 18-35 years with minimum Class VIII education. PMRY was merged into the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) in August 2008.
