PM SVAMITVA Yojana

PM SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) is a scheme that uses drone survey technology to map all inhabited land in rural India and issue property rights documents (Property Cards) to the legal owners of residential properties in villages. This is a landmark initiative because, historically, most rural households in India have lived on land they occupy but do not have formal legal documentation for — making it impossible to use property as collateral for bank loans.

With a SVAMITVA Property Card, a village household can use their home as security to access institutional credit — opening the door to formal banking that was previously unavailable. The card also resolves long-standing property disputes, provides a basis for property tax assessment in gram panchayats, and enables efficient planning of village-level infrastructure.

As of July 2026, drone surveys have been completed in over 2.9 lakh villages and more than 2.5 crore Property Cards have been distributed. The survey is conducted state by state — check if your village has been surveyed by visiting svamitva.nic.in and entering your state and district. Property Cards are distributed at special events organised by the state government — you will receive notification through your gram panchayat.
