PM Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan (PM-SYM)

PM Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme for unorganised workers — street vendors, rickshaw pullers, construction workers, domestic workers, weavers, leather workers, and similar occupations — with a monthly income below ₹15,000. The scheme provides a guaranteed monthly pension of ₹3,000 after the age of 60. Both the worker and the central government contribute equally to the pension fund.

The contribution amount is age-based: a worker joining at age 18 pays ₹55 per month while the government matches it with another ₹55. A worker joining at 29 pays ₹100 per month. The contribution must be made continuously until age 60. If a subscriber exits the scheme before 60, they receive their own contributions back with bank-rate interest — they do not lose the money paid in.

PM-SYM is specifically for workers who are NOT covered by ESIC or EPFO (formal employment social security). Workers who are income tax payers or enrolled in NPS, ESIC, or EPFO are not eligible.
