Launched in 2006-07, the National Bamboo Mission promoted area expansion under bamboo cultivation, development of backward and forward linkages, and creation of bamboo-based livelihoods particularly in northeastern and tribal states. NBM provided subsidies for bamboo plantation, nurseries, training, and product development. NBM Phase I (2006-14) was restructured and merged into the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) framework before Phase II was launched in 2018.
