Mission Indradhanush is India's intensified vaccination programme aimed at fully immunising all children under 2 years of age and pregnant women who have been left out of routine immunisation. India's Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) is one of the largest in the world â providing free vaccines against 12 diseases including Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough, Polio, TB, Hepatitis B, Pneumonia, Japanese Encephalitis, Measles, and Rotavirus.
Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) phases specifically target remote, hard-to-reach, and urban slum areas where routine immunisation coverage is low. Vaccination drives are conducted in fixed sessions at health sub-centres and through outreach â meaning you do not need to travel to a hospital. During Mission Indradhanush rounds, vaccinators come to your locality.
For parents and expectant mothers: all vaccinations under UIP are free at government health facilities. The vaccination schedule starts at birth (BCG, OPV, Hepatitis B) and continues at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 14 weeks, 9 months, and 16â24 months. Register at your nearest ASHA or ANM to get a vaccination card that tracks your child's immunisation schedule. Missing any dose can be corrected through catch-up immunisation. Our editorial team verified current vaccine schedule and Mission Indradhanush round dates against the NHM immunisation portal, July 2026.
