Launched in 1991 as a redesigned version of the Adolescent Girls Scheme, Kishori Shakti Yojana provided nutrition, health, life skills, and vocational training to adolescent girls (11-18 years) through the ICDS Anganwadi network. It was operational in selected blocks across states. KSY was eventually superseded by the Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls (RGSEAG/SABLA) in 2010 which covered all ICDS blocks.
