Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY)

iAbout This Scheme

Originated in 1985 as a sub-scheme of JRY and made independent in 1996, IAY was the flagship rural housing scheme providing grant-based construction assistance to BPL rural households, particularly SC/ST and freed bonded labourers. It provided ₹70,000 (plain) and ₹75,000 (hilly/difficult areas) per unit. IAY was replaced by the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana — Gramin (PMAY-G) in November 2016 which doubled the unit assistance.
