Employment Assurance Scheme (EAS)

iAbout This Scheme

Launched in October 1993, the Employment Assurance Scheme guaranteed 100 days of unskilled manual work per year to rural workers between 18-60 years in 1,778 blocks identified as drought-prone or tribal. EAS was later extended to all rural blocks. It ran alongside JRY and was merged into the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) in 2001, which itself was subsumed by MGNREGS in 2006.
