Ministry of Women and Child Development
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) is a national campaign launched in January 2015 to address the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and promote the welfare and education of the girl child. The scheme operates through a convergence of the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and Ministry of Education, implemented at district and block levels across India.
BBBP is primarily a behaviour change and awareness campaign rather than a direct benefit scheme. It works through community mobilisation, school awareness programmes, and local administration training to prevent female foeticide, ensure birth registration of girl children, and promote girl child education. Districts with the lowest CSR (Child Sex Ratio) receive focused attention under the programme.
The most well-known financial benefit linked to BBBP is the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) savings scheme for girl children — though SSY is a separate scheme, its launch was announced alongside BBBP. Families looking for direct financial benefits for their daughter should explore SSY, CBSE Udaan, and state-level girl child schemes in addition to BBBP. A tri-ministerial campaign to address the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and promote welfare and education of the girl child. Launched in Panipat in January 2015, it works across gender-critical districts with community mobilization, awareness campaigns, and convergence of services.
