Launched on 2 October 2007, AABY provided life and disability insurance coverage to rural landless households aged 18-59 years. The annual premium of ₹200 was shared equally between the Central and State Governments. AABY covered death (₹30,000), natural death (₹30,000), accidental death (₹75,000), and permanent disability (₹75,000). It was merged with the Janashree Bima Yojana into the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) in 2015.
