CTET

CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is the minimum qualification examination for teaching in central government schools — Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS), Sainik Schools, and Central Tibetan Schools. Conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), CTET is now a lifelong valid certificate — the earlier 7-year validity was removed in 2021, making it a one-time qualification exam for teaching eligibility.

CTET has two papers: Paper 1 for teachers of Classes 1–5 (Primary Stage) and Paper 2 for Classes 6–8 (Elementary Stage). Candidates who wish to teach both levels must appear for both papers. Each paper is 150 marks — covering Child Development and Pedagogy (30 marks), Language 1 (30 marks), Language 2 (30 marks), and subject-specific content (60 marks for Paper 2: Mathematics/Science or Social Studies/Social Science). The minimum qualifying score is 60% (90 marks).

CTET qualifying does not automatically give you a teaching job — it only establishes your eligibility to be considered for teaching positions. Actual appointments are made through separate recruitment by KVS, NVS, or state governments. Many states also accept CTET for their own government school appointments.
