RRB Group D

RRB Group D recruitment is the largest single recruitment exercise by Indian Railways,, filling Level 1 posts including Track Maintainer Grade IV, Helper (Electrical/Signal/Engineering/Mechanical), Assistant Pointsman, Hospital Attendant, and Gateman. With approximately 1 lakh vacancies in major cycles and over 1 crore applicants, it is also one of the most competitive entry-level central government exams. The minimum qualification is Class 10 pass (or ITI from a recognised institute), making it accessible to a very large pool of candidates.

Despite being a Level 1 post (basic pay ₹18,000), Group D in Indian Railways is a prized job — primarily because of the non-salary benefits. Free railway passes for the employee and family (Privilege Ticket Orders), RELHS medical cover for family members at Railway hospitals, availability of railway quarters at nominal rent, and a permanent central government job with NPS pension make this far more valuable than the basic pay suggests.

The selection process has three stages: Computer Based Test (CBT) covering Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness (100 questions, 90 minutes); Physical Efficiency Test (PET) involving running, lifting, and carrying tasks; and Medical Examination.
