UPSC CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) AC Examination is conducted by UPSC to recruit Assistant Commandants (Group A, Gazetted) for the five CAPFs: BSF (Border Security Force), CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), CISF (Central Industrial Security Force), ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police), and SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal). This is a direct entry officer-level recruitment — not to be confused with constable-level CAPF recruitment by SSC.
The selection process has three stages: Written Examination (250 marks — Paper I General Ability & Intelligence, Paper II General Studies), Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Test, and Medical Examination followed by Interview/Personality Test (150 marks). The written exam is crucial as it sets the merit order for the physical and medical rounds.
The CAPF AC post comes with significant perks beyond standard central government allowances: Risk and Hardship Allowances, Dress Allowance, ration money, free accommodation in force premises, medical cover for self and dependents, and a defined career path to DIG level through promotions. Our editorial team has reviewed this examination against the official UPSC CAPF notification at upsc.gov.in, July 2026.
The UPSC CAPF (AC) Examination recruits Assistant Commandants for five Central Armed Police Forces: CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF, and SSB. It is one of the premier paramilitary officer entry exams in India offering a prestigious and challenging career in national security.
