NEET PG

NEET-PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test — Postgraduate) is the single national entrance exam for admission to MD, MS, MDS, Diploma, and DNB (Diplomate of National Board) postgraduate medical courses in India. Conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), it replaced all individual state and institution-level PG medical entrance exams. Every MBBS graduate who wants to pursue specialisation must clear NEET-PG.

The exam is a computer-based test of 200 multiple choice questions (800 marks) covering all subjects taught in the MBBS curriculum — Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiology, and Anaesthesia. The time limit is 3 hours 30 minutes.

NEET-PG scores are used for admission to 50% All India Quota seats through MCC counselling and 50% state quota seats through respective state counselling. DNB seats at private hospitals are also filled through NEET-PG. The competition is intense — approximately 2 lakh candidates compete for around 50,000 MD/MS seats. Candidates should note that NEET-PG validity is limited — scores must be used in the same year as the examination.
