Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) State Services Examination is the primary route to Group A and Group B posts in the Maharashtra state government β including Deputy Collector, Deputy SP, Tahsildar, Block Development Officer, and State Tax Inspector among others. It is conducted by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission and is often described as the "State-level UPSC" due to its three-stage structure and similar examination approach.
The MPSC State Services exam has three stages: Preliminary Examination (400 marks, 2 papers), Mains Examination (6 papers, descriptive), and Interview. A significant portion of the Mains syllabus is Maharashtra-specific: Maharashtra history, geography, economy, and polity carry dedicated paper weight. This is the key differentiator from central government exam preparation.
The exam is conducted in Marathi and English. For Mains, most GS papers can be written in Marathi or English β but the regional language paper (Marathi) is compulsory. Maharashtra-domicile and non-domicile candidates are both eligible but state-specific posts may have domicile requirements. Our editorial team reviews MPSC notifications and syllabus against the official MPSC website at mpsc.gov.in, last updated July 2026.
MPSC State Services Examination is Maharashtra's premier civil services exam, recruiting candidates for posts like Deputy Collector, DSP, Tehsildar, and other Group A/B posts across Maharashtra government. The exam is conducted in online Prelims mode and emphasizes Maharashtra-specific subjects.
